Jamelia第一首单曲在1999年发行，那时Jamelia不过还是个18岁的小女孩，但早在3年之前，她就以15岁的年轻潜力赢得了一纸唱片合约。在沉潜二年的筹备训练之后方发行第一首作品，当时的英国乐坛还没有人发觉到，这大家苦寻的英国R&B DIVA接班人会是这个来自伯明罕的18岁小娃。在单曲发行后的18个月内，她已经拥有4首英国金榜Top 40单曲，并赢得1座Mobo音乐奖肯定的女歌手。接近成功的脚步似乎越来越快的时候，2000年中以后Jamelia因怀孕而停下了所有的演艺活动，并在小宝宝出生后的做了两年快乐的全职母亲。虽然如此，她对于歌唱事业仍旧无法忘情，在这两年之中，她仍不断地创作，并开始全新专辑的筹制工作。2003年6月，Jamelia先以曾与M People合作并在上一张专辑中供献畅销单曲Money的知名制作人C Swing全伤口的单曲Bout令所有人眼睛一亮，即使这首单曲因音乐录影带在制作时出现问题，无法跟上宣传的进度，仍在媒体上获得了高度的赞赏，知名音乐网站dotmusic即给了8分的高评；紧接着在9月再推出单曲Superstar，正面的歌词词意与流畅且高能量R&B律动，让这首歌曲更俱可听性，一发行既进入排行前10，并在Top 20徘徊超过20周；另外由去年在英国各大排行及奖项上大放异彩的So Solid Crew团员Asher D跨刀的Off Da Endz、Urban超级制作人Timbaland门下白人弟子Bubba Sparxxx合唱曲Club Hoppin及表现Jamelia无限创作才能的专辑同名单曲Thank You等，都是令歌迷们听到耳朵出油的上乘之作。
